To all UFCW Local 649 Members,

 

I hope everyone had a nice summer.

 

A reminder that we’re having a General Membership meeting on November 15th at Sutherland Hall. This is an important meeting, as we’ll be nominating positions on our Union’s Executive Board. All positions on 649’s Executive are up for election this year: President, Secretary-Treasurer, Recorder, and all 3 Vice Presidents.

 

Nominations for Shop Stewards and Occupational Health and Safety are now closed. Everyone who was nominated for one of these positions won by acclamation, so we won’t be having elections at this meeting. Thank you to everyone who let their name stand.

 

Following nominations for the Executive Board we’ll be conducting our regular General Membership Meeting. Anyone who attends this meeting will be paid out the annual assessment at a rate of $60. We’ll also be handing out twenty $20 door prizes. Unless you qualify for an exemption (such as working the night shift) you must have attended one of the two meetings held in 2022 to qualify for the annual assessment.

 

I apologize again for the delay in having the contract books printed. Federated Co-op has been dragging their feet for months on the approval and signing of the proofed document. I’ll expand on this and other communication challenges at the General Membership Meeting. In the meantime, I’ve had a pdf of the Collective Agreement uploaded to our website. Watch your inbox in the coming months for detailed breakdowns of some of the new language in the agreement.
