Unions are democratic, as members run the union. Our union executive is elected by you to represent all members of UFCW Canada Local 649.
The Executive Board consists of the President, Treasurer, Home Office Vice President, Warehouse Vice President, and Recorder. The Board meets regularly to discuss union issues.
As a member of UFCW Canada Local 649, you are represented by a Local Union that assists you in bargaining and enforcing your collective agreement, as well as providing all necessary services to the membership.
As a UFCW 649 member, you are also part of a strong national union – UFCW Canada – that represents more than 250,000 members across the country. And UFCW Canada’s National Office and Local Unions are affiliated with the UFCW International, which represents over 1.3 million members in North America. As such, UFCW is one of the largest, most progressive, and fastest-growing unions in the world.
There are 33 UFCW Local Unions in Canada. You will find UFCW Canada members working in the retail, manufacturing, health care, and service sectors. The largest component of our membership works in some aspect of the food industry – from the farm field to the table, UFCW members help feed Canadian families. Our members work in meat packing plants, breweries, warehouses, catering shops, snack food outlets, and agricultural operations, as well as in supermarkets, bars and restaurants, and hotels.
